Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu known professionally as Burna Boy is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, rapper, and dancer. He is recognized as one of the biggest and most successful African artists.
Burna Boy was born on the 2nd of July 1991 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria while His father managed a welding company and his mother worked as a translator, his grandfather Benson Idonije once managed the legendary Nigerian musician and activist Fela Kuti.
He is the CEO of Spaceship Entertainment record label and enjoys both international and local recognition. With his fusion of dancehall, reggae, Afro-beat, and pop, Burna Boy emerged in the early part of the 2010s as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising stars.

Burna Boy Career
His career was brought into the spotlight in 2012 after releasing “Like to Party”, the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E (2013). In 2017, Burna Boy went on to sign with Bad Habit/Atlantic Records in the United States and Warner Music Group internationally and his third studio album titled Outside marked his major-label debut.
Burna Boy’s debut studio album L.I.F.E was released on 12 August 2013 which served as the follow-up to his second mixtape Burn Identity (2011). The album went on to sell 40,000 copies on the first day of its release which Aristokrat Records later sold its marketing rights to Uba Pacific for ₦10 million before the album’s release was then preceded by five singles: “Like to Party”, “Tonight”, “Always Love You”, “Run My Race” and “Yawa Dey”.
Burna Boy often describes his music as Afro-fusion, a genre that blends Afrobeat, dancehall riddims, reggae, American rap and R&B. August Brown of the Los Angeles Times said Burna Boy’s sound is “savvy and modern but undistracted by obvious crossover moves”.

Burna Boy would go on to win Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards in 2019 and was announced as an Apple Music Up Next artist before his fourth studio album African Giant was released in July 2019 which went on to win Album of the Year at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards and was nominated for the Best World Music Album category at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2019.
He went on to win the African Artist of the year at the 2020 VGMA’s then later In 2020, his album Twice as Tall was nominated for the same category at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards making him the first Nigerian with back-to-back nominations at the Grammys before finally winning the award for Best World Music Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2021.
