The singer R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of creating a scheme to entice and sexually exploit young aspiring singers and underage children. The R&B star was convicted in September for racketeering and sex trafficking.
The sentencing took place in a Federal court in New york. The judge who handled the case, Judge Allison Donnelly said, “there are few crimes more serious than serial rape and sexual abuse over many years.”
It was said R. Kelly uses his entourage of assistants, managers, and bodyguards to procure young boys and girls to control them and sexually abuse them, and sometimes threaten them. R. Kelly who is 55 years old was in court as his accusers made different remarks about him. One of his accusers said he is disgusting and despicable. One of his victims described him as a “Pied Piper” who lure children with his money and celebrity. She said, “with every addition of a new victim, you grew in wickedness.”
Another said, “you used your power to groom underage boys and girls for your own sexual satisfaction.”
Another victim wrote down how the abuse have messed up her health and mental state of mind as she broke down in tears. The father of the victim also stood up in court and said, “I didn’t come here to bash Mr. Kelly, I do want to ask you Mr. Kelly to look at me man to man, father to father, put yourself in my shoes, I will certainly put myself in your shoes,” but R.Kelly didn’t look up.
R-Kelly’s lawyers have been pushing for a 10 years sentence sighting the fact that he was also abused as a child, but the judge rejected that, rather sentencing him to 30 years in imprisonment
R-Kelly’s abuse of children has been going on for so many years and was almost an open secret. Cases of his abuse have been reported so many times but were never taken seriously.
Apart fr0m the charges of abuse, he still has two other outstanding cases. R-. Kelly’s cases is far from over.
